I have a 2000 7.3L PSD with the 4R100 tranny and what to install a shift kit and was wondering what the best one would be? I do alot of towing and snowplowing so I need somwthing that can withstand the abuse.
How much work do you want to do? You can boost the line pressure with a tuner, but it's hard on the pump and you don't have to unbolt anything. You can get modified valve bodies from BD diesel or Factory Tech, unbolt the original and bolt the new one in. Or you can get a kit from Transgo, where you have to pull the valve body, change some springs and drill some holes out.
I was going to do the Transgo Performance kit since I had an account with them back then. Then I found Factory tech. The install was drain and remove the pan, pull 8 or so bolts from the bottom of the transmission (remembering where each went) and replace the part that comes out with the new one.
When I had my warn down BFGs on it, 1-2 would chirp pretty easy. The Toyos are more difficult to chirp during shifts.
