Ford work solutions cable lock

Got me a new toy for my truck. It's one of the new options available for the 09 F150, but Ford was kind enough to make it fit the older half tons and super duty's also.

It's a bit of a pain to put in, but it bolts directly in place of the little tie down loops in the back of the bed. Cable is 8' long with a hand cuff end so you can loop the cable through things and hook it back on itself. Comes with a retractable reel so you don't have to worry about it laying around in the bed. I got it from Ed (FTE parts guy) Click Here for part

The nice thing about Ed, is I asked him about this probably 8 months ago when I first saw a brochure with a picture of this. It wasn't available as a stand alone part at first, but Ed kept in touch at least once a month letting me know he was still looking into this. Thanks for this Ed.

Then of course I realized I could re-install the little tie down loop in case I wanted to keep that also.

What would you use this for? Does it lock back onto something so that you can secure stuff??

Yes, just loop it through or around whatever items you want to secure, then lock the handcuff back onto the cable. It beats carrying a cable in the toolbox, then having to fight/untangle it every time you want to lock something in the bed.

Smart man, Chris, to spread that info to the Super Duty forum too! Good job bro!

Then of course I realized I could re-install the little tie down loop in case I wanted to keep that also.

Ken, yes, it does! Got your bicycle in the bed? Loop the cable through the bike and lock the cuff part back on the cable, or the bike itself. Now your bike is secure for that quick trip into the store.

Need to run in to Home Depot really quick and you still have your compressor and chop saw in the back? Just loop the cable through both tools and secure it with this and voila, your tools can't be stolen by someone who is walking by, grabbing it from the bed of the truck as he passes.

Sure, cables can be cut, but you have to have the tool for that, and it aint like anyone will use this as a permanent security solution or will think they can keep things secure over night, out in the open.

There have been many times I've had stuff (like my bike, compressor, tile saw, etc) in the bed and had to stop to run into a store like Home Depot or OSH, where this system would have granted some peace of mind!

Everyone who has a truck we've installed it on loves it so far.

It uses the same bolts and mounts to the same holes as your tie down hook back there. The attachment to the bed is reinforced in that area to provide additional support.

Unbreakable? No, but it's stronger than fastening into any other part of the bed. Pulling on the cable spool feels like it's solid.

You know we're all like this, depending on the situation, throughout our lives, right?

I just have so many other projects I need money for first (bellowed uppipes (x2), 1.15 housing for the 38R sittting in my garage, etc) before I can buy this little gem.

I picked up a few more of these for some work trucks, and the first guy to install one figured out the tie-down hook by himself. I went out to act all smart and show him how it would fit, and he already had it on there.

Absolutely! I know I'll love it too, once I get one!

Does anyone know how to get a replacement key for this retractable cable system?
