On my '84 model F150, 300 6 truck, I have what looks like two converters. I know some of the 4 and 6 cyl. passenger cars had a hollow shell, resonator near the head pipe. Is this so on the trucks too? Also what size pipe is used on the 6 cyl trucks? I would like to buy my pipe and rent the cutter at the same time, so i dont have to make trips back to the parts store.
Yeah i have ditched the dual cats for a high flow Flowaster cat on my 95. On as old as my project truck, they arent required. Someone had already beat me to the punch though and gutted the cats. I had parts of the factory pipe that were starting to rot, so i replaced it from the head pipe to the glasspack, and put a turn down in front of the axle. Sounds a LOT better than it did. Thanks guys for all your input.
My 80 didn't have a converter in it all, and I had the hardest time trying to get an inspection, but somewhere in little bitty letters it states that "All vehicles after 1969 must have a CC" but in teenny teeny letters behind that the law reads "Vehicles before 198? (I wanna say 83) may have the CC removed it is leaking, clogged, or defective".
some of the trucks had a "catalitic convertet exhemt" rateing. I think until 83, I think they were 351w 's, and 460's. there were 2 smog pumps on them, and a whole bunch more hoses and crap under the hood. you could'nt just clasify it that way, there was a sticker under the hood that specified cc exhempt. my buddy has an 83 f-350 with a 351 w 2bbl dump truck like that. this is maryland, I don't know about other states, but can't imagine ford only makeing them like that for only 1 state. I know cheverolet did it too, they called thiers "big 10" don't tell any one, but I owned one of them.
When I was stationed at Ft Carson my truck had to pass inspection and there was no way to do that without several thousand dollars worth of work heck I didn't even have a cataletic convertor at all or anything else for that matter. So I just found a little shop out in the country paid them a little extra "magically" it passed with flying colors. I'm sure this is legal...LMAO
