I have 06 f-250 4x4. This past weekend my 4x4 worked fine for auto lock and couple hours later they wouldn't lock in. I had to use the manual lockouts to get out. Is this a simple fix (fuse, breaker)? The four wheel drive worked fine.
I did notice before this happened that when I would engage the 4x4 that it sometimes took a bit of time before it engaged. And if I started to accelerate when it wanted to engaged it would clunk.
I always let off the gas when I engage 4x4 and after a short distance I get back on the fuel.
Mine had the vacuum switch go bad it's mounted on the inner wheel well on the passenger side. It was like 95 bucks from Ford...hopefully it's just a fuse.
I always to try to run my truck in 4X4 at least once a month just to keep everything moving and lubricated. In 30 years I have never had a 4X4 failure (except for company chev trucks in the early 80's up north in the 40 to 50 below, plastic bits in auto hubs would break). Some of my trucks would to into 4X4 in the fall and not go to 2 wheel till spring and never a problem.
If you don't exercise your 4X4 system it will break on you. Don't know much about these auto hubs though, used to manual warn types.
