94 ranger need some advice
I added a jumper cable from positive battery post to starter RELAY.
No joy, it still would'nt crank.
But when I added the jumper from negative battery post to engine block & it fired right up I knew the negative battery cable was shot.
Another simple thing you can try is to remove the wire with the rubber boot from the starter RELAY & jump 12 volts to that terminal. Does it crank when you do this?
If it does, look for a bad neutral or clutch switch or a bad ignition switch.
If your truck has a transmission make sure it's in neutral (or Park if it's a slugomatic)when you do this test.
The starter RELAY connects voltage to the starter solenoid which is part of the starter.
If you enter the info for your truck at autozone.com you can pull up the start circuit wiring diagram which will show you how the starter relay ties everything in the start circuit together.
After you've looked at the wiring diagram & understand how the circuit works, it wont take more than a couple of minutes of testing to find the problem.
