I put Powerslot cryo'd rotors and Hawk LTS pads on my front wheels about 2yrs, 30k miles ago. Lately they've been starting to sqeak or screech under light to moderate braking. Under harder braking, they seem fine. Is there a posibility that the pads are worn down already? It would seem kinda odd to me. When they were newer they worked fine. But actually for quite a while the passenger side had a slight squeal to it, but nothing real noticeable, but now it seems both sides are quite louder and noticeable. I irritates me after spending all that money of high performance brakes that they sound horrible, even though they stop well!
When you fitted them did you use anti-squeal shims between the pads and pistons?
I don't remember. If they were included in the box or already attached, they are on there. If they weren't in the box, then no, I didn't use any. I know the name is kinda self-explanatory, but how exactly does the anti-squeal shim work?
Brake squeal can be due to a buildup of dust between the pad and rotor but the most common cause is the pad vibrating against the caliper piston and the metal to metal contact making the noise. The usual way to eliminate this is for a very thin stainless steel shim, the same shape as the pad backing, to be installed between the pad backing and the piston. A new set of pads would not normally include these. If yours doesn`t have them it would be worth trying them. I would think you could get them at any auto parts store.
