so im having so more serious problomes with my truck!
here is the run down-
on friday one week ago i was driving home from work like normal and i noticed that a slight clicking sound in my truck had gotten very loud( this sound only happens when i hit around 2000rpms, and when driving up hill. my truck was lossing speed.
I almost get home when i notice now my gears are shifting alot higher than they should. but if i let off the gas when it should change gears it does.
I change my oil over the weekend, and pospone a camping trip cuz i knew i needed to set aside some money for my truck if i have a serious problome.
threwout the following week i have the same problome!
so on wednesday when i got paid i checked my oil, air filter, front dif, rear dif, and transfer case(cuz i also noticed a burning gear oil smell coming from the back of my truck) but they were all fine.
I didnt check my trans cuz i just have it fixed about a month ago and i knew it was fine.
on thrusday so i went and bought a fuel filter, changed that( the old fuel filter was so bad the gas was black coming out of it.)
the truck felt fine on the was home, and the ratle sound was almost not noticable.
today i drove my truck to work and halfway to work i noticed it was starting to act up again. when i got to work my check engine light came on.
on the drive home it was worse than ever. the check engine light was on almost the wole way, tell i went down a steep part of the freeway. then it turned off.
but on the way up the hill i was doing like 40-35mph max!
and when i press down to hard on the gas it shoots the rpms way up and my truck slows down more.
i bought a haynes manual and checked a few things the book said it might be, but nothing has helped.
PLEASE HELP. is my trans going out again or engine troubles.
the rataling happens when im in gear or when im in nutral so i wouldnt think its the trans,

The codes will be there even if the check engine light is off it stores the codes in the computer. On mine i had the main problem fixed so the light would go out but i still have codes that tells me the rest of my trucks problems.
follow the link that 460/5 has given you....it will show you how to retrieve the code from your trucks computer. It is easy to do and costs nothing. At the bottom of that page is a link to what the codes mean.
If you are unsure at that point, post your codes here and we will help you with what they mean, or at least point you in the right direction.
just make sure that you read the info carefully as there are two sets of codes separated by a single flash with 6 second pauses before and after.
Also, it will repeat the codes for the first set before moving on the the second.

yup...for example...in current condition codes...if you get a system pas. It will give you a 1-1-1, it'll then repeat it....then 6 second pause, single flash, six second pause and then onto the continuous memory codes.
