I have a 2 WD E4Od tranny that I'm retrofitting into an '83 F100. It has no speedometer gears cut into the output shaft. I need to get an output shaft with the speedometer gears.
I found some NOS shafts for sale cheap on Ebay. The part numbers are:
F81Z-7060-AA - 4R100 Transmission in a 2 Wheel Drive Vehicle with No Speedometer Gear
F81Z-7060-BA - 4R100 Transmission in a 4 Wheel Drive Vehicle
F81Z-7060-CA - 4R100 Transmission in a 2 Wheel Drive Vehicle with a 7 tooth Speedometer Gear
F81Z-7060-DA - 4R100 Transmission in a 2 Wheel Drive Vehicle with a 8 tooth Speedometer Gear
I think that I need the 8 tooth speedometer gear. I am replacing an AOD transmission.
These are 1998 vintage parts, my transmission is ? vintage, and certainly older than 1998.
Which shaft do I need and will these shafts fit my older E4OD tranny?
I found the answer to one of my questions. The 8 tooth speedometer gear is used in '89 & up transmissions, while the 7 tooth gear is used in 94 & up transmissions.
I can see no reason why I can't use a '98 vintage 8 tooth shaft in my '89 model E4OD. The only other difference seems to be a cup plug in the later versus a bushing in the early.
Please give me some opinions. I'd like to order one of these NOS output shafts ASAP.
