I have not done this yet but here is my plan...(read *** grano salis)
I am going to add a separate connector between the truck and the trailer to run power for backup lights and eventually a camera mounted in the trailer to spy on the horses. The backup light power will come from a relay on the truck. The relay power will come from a fused connection to the battery and the relay control power will come from a switch in the cab. I plan to run this switch off of the park light power so that I cannot turn the backups on without the truck park lights being on also. I hope this will help prevent accidentally leaving the backup lights on and running down the truck battery.
red, thanks. the other post didnt show a diagram for me. you showed a post and how to check the hot. thanks. i'm going to have to unload the trailer it is stacked witjh trees going to the mill, so i can bring it in to the shop to check the wires.
if i can find the black wire and switch it at the trailer for the lights that way the lights only work if the truck is hooked to the trailer abd getting out to fire the lights wont be that hard. will let you know how i do! might be a little its cold out there!
On the farm I have set all of the trailers w/batts for the breaks with a flat four way plug at the rear of the trailer and at the front of the trailer. I then have a cheap fog light that has a magnetic mount off of an old mag. mount c.b. antena and a pig tail that plugs into the flat four way plug so that I can see to hook up in the middle of nowhere at night or see to back up in the middle of the night. By having it magnetic I can move the light from trailer to trailer and position it anywhere I need light on the trailer in or out.
Wow, long thread, lots of discussion, and nobody mentioned pouring more concrete at the end of the lane so the trailer could be turned around. Actually, I am the type that would make the driveway bigger AND hook up the lights.
Just thinkin' outside the box here. "Give Me Forty Acres and I'll Turn This Rig Around" Anyone else remember that song?
