I,m going to look at some different companies, however, I did receive a quote from a company called US Auto Warranty. They quoted me $1825 for a 7 year 100,000 mile power train with no inspection first and $2650 for a 5 year 100,000 mile bumper to bumper. They also offer interest free financing on these. Do you have any experience with the Ford or any other brand warranty?
I posted almost the exact same description you did on F150online.com in November of 2008 and got no responses. I have the exact same clattering noise you describe in the driveway when I get off the throttle. It is more noticable after the engine has warmed up a little bit. I took it to my local Ford dealer and spent $1800 and had the cam phasers replaced to no avail. Then they replaced the lash adjusters and knock sensor, that didn't work either. Then they started asking me just what noise I was talking about. They were listening to it after it was cold. So, I told them it had to warm up and be checked at low throttle on an incline. I actually had to take the senior service tech to my house (the drive warmed the engine enough) and show him in my driveway what I was hearing. He agreed that it was making a strange clattering / knocking noise. Not quietly either. They asked if they could have some more time to try and figure it out. After about 1 1/2 weeks, I demanded my truck and my money back. I realize this doesn't help you other than to tell you what is not the problem. If you figure it out I hope to hear from you and I will post more if I learn something. Also, I have been driving my truck since then, about 12,000 miles or so and it is still running fine. Knock on wood.
I also looked into some aftermarket warranties but, none of them would cover noises. They would only cover parts for failure.
I had some issues with my ford when they looked it over for ESP. The trick is to bring them your truck MUDDY when they do the inspection. I did that and they didnt check the whole ttruck just signed off on it lol I know its a bad thing to do but, what can you do..
if u own any vehicle with vct (cam phasers) my advice is to get rid of it and go diesle or anything w/o vct. I have rebuilt my 06 F-350 5.4l top end twice and it now needs another cam. @ 175000 mi. she has cost over 5000$ in top end repair and thats just parts, also lots of time. Time for me to get rid
my theory is that the vct or cam phasers rob 3 much oil pressure leaving not enough for the rest of the valve train in my case it is always #8 exh cam lobes are fried. I Think possably enginering flaw. VCT is a new concept in auto enginering and may need some major bugs worked out. BTW Ford rocks wouldnt lower myself to drive anything else.
