Switch to Syn.

I want to change the oil on my truck since I have no idea when it was done last.

I don't know what the P/O put in and I want to use Rotella T 5w-40 Syn. is there anything special I should do that you wouldn't do for a normal oil change?

I know we're past the days of blending dino and synthetic, but I'm wondering if I should drop a quart into the HPOP to try to flush it out a little better or anything along those lines.

Thanks in advance, guys!

Just do a normal oil change. The oils will be good together in the engine that doesn't come out and mixes with the 5w-40. You are good to go, change the oil and the engine will love you for it.

EDIT: If you don't know when the oil was changed, you probably don't know when the trans, power steering, brake, coolant, and the rest of the fluids were changed. Change all fluids. Then you have something to go by for the next change.

Change away as usual. I see it as with 14+ quarts total capacity, a smidgen of dino oil with all that new Synth stuff won't hurt a thing. You'll love the Synth stuff.

I'd replace as much of the oil as possible, here are a few pix for comparison.
Before.

after.

I would send a oil sample to Black Stone Laboratory for a oil analysis, see how your motor doing.

I have one their containers I can send you tomorrow if you would like.

I plan on changing all the fluids/filters so I know when they were done. It's just a matter of know-how and time. First on the list is fuel filter and oil change. Then trans + coolant change. Then p/s and brake fluid. I believe I read somewhere you are supposed to use ATF for your power steering?

I would send an oil sample off just to see where you stood on things. I have 236k on mine and I am debating if I should switch. I have alot of trouble free miles with rotella dino to be considering switching to synthetic. I would worry about the wear patterns with the dino vs switching to synthetic. The dino is going to be thicker vs the synthetic and I would worry about a leak or blow by. That is why I am holding off on switching until I can get everything back from blackstone.Of course it doesn't help much when the sample has been riding in the cup holder for 5 days either.
I would just sample and see where I stood. If I had alot of wear issues then I would not switch but your miles arent that bad either. sample it.

It's all medical supplies they throw away, I wouldn't use it for anything else than cleaning up crud. I visit my brother that is in a convalescent hospital and I always find it in the trash in his room.

It's a vacuum hose for the o2 pumps and a feeding syringe.
