I recently had to take my 2001 F350 in the the body shop for repairs from a front tire exploding, and wanted to pull the CD's out before taking it in- stock 6 CD changer. Went well at first, unloaded the first one, went to unload the second, and it had a hairball- didn't unload, and I got CD ERROR- still showed the loaded CD's, but wouldn't unload, and wouldn't play, either- same error message. Is there a combo of buttons to push to reset it, or troubleshoot, or what? I've tried off and on, cycle between radio & CD, all the usual stuff, no change. It was working perfectly up until then, all other functions still good.
Mine has glitched a couple of times. My usual culprit is the CD is half ejected, but not enough to grab it. Take a close look at the doors, pry them open if you have too. If you can see the thin edge of a CD, find a skinny pair of tweezers and bend them flat. Mine open up slight when you have them closed, the slot isn't quite big enough for the arch.
There is a way to get one to initialize, but I don't know the trick.
Mine did the same thing a couple months ago. Everything I heard was, get another radio/cd player. My radio works so, I will wait till later to get another. This has happened to a few people on here and they had to get another.
Friendly: Use a small flat blade screwdriver (#0 works great, it's a little larger than the glasses ones) and put it between the CD and the TOP of the player. Gently lift on the screwdriver handle (this applies pressure DOWN onto the CD). This should allow the player to eject the CD.
Not So Friendly: On the dash above the player, right where the dash starts to make the hump, take your fist and bang (gently) on the dash and the CD should come out. If it doesn't, slowly increase your force against the dash until either the CD comes out or you break your hand (or as hard as you want to hit it).
I recommend the friendly method as it's not as damaging, but the other one works well when it's dark or you're driving and can't take the time to fish it out with the screwdriver.
One thing I learned: load and eject all the CDs you want in the player at the same time. For some reason this helps keep it in alignment and minimizes the read errors and ejection problems. If I want to change 1 CD I will eject all of them and then reload all the CDs I want. I don't ask why as long as it works.
I tried to eject a cd one day when it was -10F and it started making weird noises and then the screen said CD ERROR.Then I turned the power off and back on,then I pushed the CD button, then it said NO CD.I pulled the unit out of the dash and removed the 2 screws that hold the top on and looked for broken parts.I couldn't see anything wrong with it,so I took a small screwdriver and moved a few little parts around and the cds then put it back together and hooked it up.I turned the power on and pushed eject and it ejected 1 cd,so I pushed it again and again until they were all out.I then tried to load a cd back in but,it wouldn't work.I was just happy to have the cds out.The next day I pushed the load button and what do know it said select slot so I put a cd in and it works.I just hope it keeps working now.
I've had this problem quite a few times, Usually the tweezers work, but a few weeks ago nothing has worked, i have 5 stuck in there and I think my only option is to take it out and tear it apart when I get time.
