Got a question

Hey, got a question, I just bought a 1975 ranger and the owner was unsure of what motor was in it, based on my VIN, F10HPV41370, what motor do I have in my truck? Thanks for the help!

Incorrect! 1973/76 Engine code "H" - 390 2v.

Yeah. :)
So does H mean what OldBlue said it was in '77, after the FE's are discontinued?

The four I know off hand are B H M and Y.
B= "the tough little {7stars}" 300 1v
H = "two uprights" 390 2v
M= "real Motor" 390 4v
Y= "Yawn" 360 2v
The only four I give a hoot about. YMMV? ;)

Just looked it up and found that H is a 351 2v in E-series in '75.

Alvin in AZ 360FE! :)

Like Jerm said it "was" a 390 with a two barrel carburetor. :)
We have no idea what you've got tho. ;)
Is it a V8?
Two barrel intake manifold on it?
Is it an FE?
Did you measure the stroke yet?

Went to buy a '74 pickup with an "H" on the door...
...measured the stroke and it was 3+1/2 inches.

Alvin in AZ 360FE!
Yep.

1977/79 engine code "H" - 351M 2v.

Correct although Econolines had the 351W, not 351M...

I've memorized most of the codes now, but I slip up at times...

Thanks for the help guys, and it should still be the 390, its been a one family truck, and I was at least told there was no sort of swaps involved. Yes, it does have a 2 barrel manifold, I have not measured the stroke, and sorry if I dont really know older ford truck lingo, but whats FE? What should the stroke measure on a 390?

^ yup, and yup, that complex just randomly has barriers around. And yea, truck is a lil beat up, no problem tho, I'll take good care of her. Ok, heres a question, trucks got two gas tanks, the one behind the cab and the one further down the bed, which one is my main tank?

The main tank is one in the rear, right by the rear axle.

FE = Ford Edsel = tough *** V8 :)
Here's a picture of one...
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...d202/008-1.jpg

FT = Ford Truck = well, you know ;)
Based on the FE, here's a picture of one...
http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/file12/C700-1.jpg

See how the four spark plugs are pointed in like this //\\? :)

The stroke on a 390FE is about 3.78".
If it has a 3.98" stroke it's a 410FE with a 4.05" bore.
3.50" stroke is a 352 or 360 depending on bore size.

When you got an FE... you don't need no steenkeen radio...
http://www.panix.com/~alvinj/file12/gearshift1.jpg

When you get around to reading about FE's you'll be impressed. ;)
I know I was, I owned one for 30 years and just thought it was
just another clunky old Ford engine.
