Searched the site but didn't find it anywhere. Can anyone provide an approximate weight of the typical 8-foot styleside bed ('91 F150)? I'm considering removing the bed from my truck for some serious bodywork and the access it would allow to deal with cleaning up the rear frame, working on rear axle/suspension, etc.
I have a floor crane but I'm not sure if it's rated capacity will safely lift the bed, or if I need to come up with a "plan B". I can fab up a fixture for bed lifting and a stand/cradle to support the bed once it's removed. It's the actual removal I need to get figured out.
I'm not sure of the exact weight, my guess would be about 300-400 pounds, but I know you can lift one with a minimun of 2 people. I had a extra bed that I sold a few months ago, and me and my friend, and the guy who bought it lift it off my trailer to his. The best is to have 1 person at each wheel well and 1 person at the back to balance the bed.
