Well my question is this, My 4.6 Romeo is blown. thats the way I bought it, Cheap. it's in a 98 f150 4x4, auto trans, Manual 4x4. Should I rebuild the 4.6 or is there a much better alt for this. I can not justify speading 1600.00 plus fright to get a used romeo w/117k miles. and what would it take to switch over to a winsor ??? I can get one of those easily for around 500.00 with between 78k to 100k. other wise this is a tough project compared to most to pull the engine. any tips to make it easier would be great as well.
Welcome to FTE Zorks! I think that the used one for $1600 is a bit steep too. If you rebuild the blown engine, then you know exactly what is going into it.
These trucks came with both engines, Windsors and Romeos so, one will fit just as well as the other. You will find some differences in some things but I am not sure of all the details. Someone who is more experienced with the differences will be along soon. Good luck!
The differences between the Romeo and Windsor engines are really minute, and meaningless as far as you're concerned for an engine swap. The worst thing will be the flexplate/flywheel-you won't know exactly what you've got in there until you pull the old engine and see how many bolts the crank has and if that matches the "new" engine. Worst case-you buy a new flexplate to match.

TY guys. that is going to be very helpful!!! if it is just a matter of a new flywheel, NP. I know the windsor has both 5 and 8 hole pattern, didnt relize that the Romeo could be either. either way. that just made the cost of this repair cheap and I can take my sweet time and build the romeo the way I want to! But that is another project in the works. by the way. anyone have a good suggestion for where to find a box/bed for a 78 f150 half ton??
