I have an 05 F350, only had it for a couple of weeks but I had grown used to seeing the boost gauge riding at around 9 psi at cruising speeds of 60-ish, 1650-1700 rpm unloaded on flat land.
last couple days I've been at around 5 psi under the same driving conditions.
Fuel mileage has gone straight in the toilet as well... sub toilet actually, I thought it was bad enough already to tell you the truth.
Cruising on flat land at 65 to 70 I can have between 0 and 10 psi. Terrain ia sometimes decieving as is throttle pos. However usually at this speed unloaded I get 17 to 21 mpg. With the 5er listed below and at 55 to 60 mph I usually get 11 to 13 mpg depending on weather conditions and terrain.
Another thing is that the mpg sucks until the engine is up to operating temp. I noticed you are in Mn. and it is cold this time of year. If you are doing short 5 to 10 mile trips in that weather you will never get any mileage to speak of.
Yeah I figure that's what's really eating up my fuel. It's warming up here now butstill not "nice" by any means.
I have been keeping my shop at about 55 degrees & the truck is parked in there every night so I don't have too cold of a start from home in the mornings but my trip to work is only 25 miles one way.
I'm probably pulling 17 with everything at normal operating temp but warming up I'm really dragging my average down.
I really don't expect to pull better than 17 on long trips unloaded with this one. Who knows though, maybe after egr block off, deleted up tube scoop, deleted cat Maybe I'll do a little better.
Winter fuel blend you will not get the same Fuel economy. Have you been filling up at the same station?
I have noticed summer blend Diesel I get better Fuel economy.
I just had my turbo cleaned. The truck was experiencing lag. since the cleaning it seems as if I have a new truck (engine)! More power (very noticeable) plus my fuel mileage went up... I was getting low 12's around town and now I get low to mid 13's. The only thing that is different about your situation is that your truck is loosing boost on the low end and my truck was loosing top end boost. I guess it all depends on where the vains are sticking.
yep i've been filling with Cenex wintermaster, winter blend.
waiting very impatiently for the summer fuel, the station i fill at dispenses a fairly large volume, lots of over the road trucks. They will be going to a B5 blend this spring.
cant wait.
Another thing I didn't mention is a strange smell, almost like burnt rubber or hot brakes... noticed it yesterday when I got off the lake with the truck (frozen over lake) I was pulling my fish house home on a trailer, stopped to check my straps & I smelled this .... smell, like burning rubber...

do you know of anything in the tech files or do you know yourself how I might check for proper function/movement of the turbo/actuator?
