Wheel bearing going bad
I own a 2003 FX4 Ranger(65,000 miles) that has developed a loud hum in the front end. When traveling down the road and yanking the wheel to the left the hum goes away until I straighten the wheel (only time it goes away). My buddy is telling me it's the right side wheel bearing since the noise goes away. Any truth to this? Thanks Scott

It's possible. How do your tires look? If you haven't rotated the tires often enough they can develop wear patterns that will cause more road noise. My F150 is this way, although to be fair I also had to replace a wheel bearing on that truck! When mine went, it started screeching as I would turn away from the side with the bad bearing at highway speeds. Jack it up and rotate the wheels by hand as fast as you can and then listen, if the bearing is bad enough to cause loud noise in the cab, you'll hear it (also check for play in the bearing). Also look at the front tires for "chopping" which will cause road noise. Hope this helps.
