Hi,
I am looking for the pulley that goes on my water pump the one that is on their now is missing 2 ribs from the original 5. I'm not sure when it happened or how much longer the belt and/or pulley will last. Problem is that I can not find this pulley anywhere. If anyone knows where i can get one that would be great. It's a 97 Ranger 4cyl 2.3l 140cid. Also the other day i found a orangeish substance with the consistancy of a lightwieght owl in my air intake. in and after(towards the motor) the Mass Air Flow Sensor. any ideas on what this stuff might be?
Have you tried looking for the pulley at a wrecking yard? Also, your local dealership may be able to order one for you. That orange colored oily stuff may have come from the engine breather hose. As the engine warms up from sitting overnight some moisture that sweats out during warm up mixes with oil vapors or small oil droplets and forms some of this orange oily residue. After a few months some of it travels where the air flow takes it. You may need to check a baffel at the other end of the breather hose to see if it's clogged up with more of this stuff. Could also be the breather hose that comes from the PCV valve, so you could check it for condition too. Sorry I'm not sure about the 2.3 breather hose on the later ones like yours. I know on some of the early ones the breather hose was on the PCV valve where it came out of the cam cover. Then later they put the PCV valve some where else. Let us know what you find.
So the power steering pump pulley is one on my water pump?
No, it is not. My mistake and apologies. I was not paying close attention and got my pumps confused. You may have to take the pulley to a belt shop and see if you can get it matched.
