...since I've finally got enough parts stacked up to really get
started on our truck... it occured to me that while installing
the IFS and 4-link air rides...I should probably be paying
attention to ride height...
I want to go with wire wheels...hopefully 15"...(maybe 16")
...tire size I was thinking around 225/50...or 235/60...
...or "some" combination involving these numbers...
...that should be a good footprint for what I want this
truck to do......I'm wondering IF anyone here is running
wire wheels with wide-whites?
I recently had a Coker Tire catalog show up and...well...ya know......
I likin' these in 15 X 8 w/painted with SS trim ring & center cap...
But NOT this color on a Red & White truck......
I haven't seen much chat around here about wire wheels on a '56...any ideas?
I'm running wire wheels on my '56 but they are not of the antique/color vintage; they are chrome Cragar Tru Spoke. I have P275/60SR15 on the back and P235/60SR15 on the front; Mustang II IFS and leaf rear.
I have a few pictures in my album for you to review.

I am also in the throws of doing the wheel selection jig and while surfing the net looking for ideas I ran across an article about wheel choices and their advice (?) was not to use a wheel that is currently fadish (like I’m thinking of doing, picture upon request) because it dates the build time of the vehicle and to use a timeless classic and I think that a wire wheel would certainly fit that description. Do it the way you want to!
...ED...NICE truck man...those are nice wheels...what size are they?
Any problems up front? Any interference???
Thanks...the wheels are 15 x 8 but I do not remember the offset. No problems with alignment or interference with brake rotors/calipers. I did have to use billet aluminum adapters in the back to change the bolt pattern rather than having the 9" axles drilled/studded.

Ok...couldn't resist......hey Ed...I was wonderin'...the next time your
out crawlin' around that wicked street rod truck and ya got and there is
some sort of a measuring devise handy...
I wonder IF you would be so kind as to let me know the over-all height
and width of your wheel/tire combo...please...?

That would help...
It's difficult to measure due to the convex nature of the tread and bulging of the tire casing. Looking at this view ( <----> ) rotated 90 degrees, the height is @ = 25" for the front & 27" for the rear. Looking at this view ( <----> ), the width is @ = 8.5" for the front and 10" for the rear. Measurements were for the tire sizes indicated previously taken at the highest points.
This may help in trying to determine if you will have clearance issues. However, as you know, the components you are mounting the tires to will also having a bearing on the clearance, e.g., the use of 1" billet adapters causes my rear tires to extent just past the outer fender well. The offset is another important factor. I believe the front wheels have 4.5" offset. I have no clearance issues but it does narrow the stance of the front end.
