Hey guys, this will probably be easy for the veterans. 95 F150 Extended Cab, 118,000 mostly paved road driving. Truck takes off through all gears as it should, after shifting into overdrive (electronic) it sporadically kicks out of overdrive for a short while and then back in, even on relatively flat ground. The truck has seen some trailer towing but not what I would call heavy use. Am I looking at a total transmission rebuild, adjustment, or what? Just need an idea before I visit the local shop and get put on the fast track to something I don't necessarily need. Thanks!
I have the same problem with my e4od, after shifting out of overdrive sometimes it will rev way up then slam into gear... I talked to a guy who told me it was an electrical circuit board inside the trans... i've been meaning to have a rebuild anyways so i'm just waiting it out til I get it in the shop
If it does end up needing a rebuild. Don't worry. A lot of F-Series trucks around this time need a new transmission. I got one about 150,000 miles and the transmission decided to dump everything during county fair when I needed it. I had mine rebuilt, but that was partly from the hard abuse she gets. (Yes, my truck is a girl.) Now my transmission is top notch and have now problems.
My mom's 98 Windstar had no overdrive at all and had a transmission replacement. It then worked perfect until it was totaled.
Just wait to see what other people say. I guarantee there is at least on transmission guy on here.

1st and foremost canoe we need to know which trans ya have -My guess is the E4OD! they are good for 100k or sometimes 190k in my case trust me I got lucky-feels like shutter? you can try Lukus trans fluid helper -I think it's called -but if the trans is kaput-it is kaput! maybe if your like the rest of us short on cash just push the button and drive it as a 3 speed? good luck buddy!
do you get the occasional check engine light popping on durring higher speeds? I have a 94 f-150 and the check engine light comes on when I am doing over 60mph it will come on sometimes and when I let off the gas it goes off and I am lacking power i.e: when I am going up hill no matter what speed I am doing I can push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and the speed will drop regardless. I hooked it up to the diagnostic and it said eccessive clutch slippage. I am waiting for a master rebuild kit. Hopefully that will fix it. might want to check into that. 250.00.
Thanks, but no engine light or any other symptoms while driving. Just in and out of E4OD at random and on flat road. Sometimes while on an incline it stays in OD when I would it expect it to downshift! Weird. What's the Lucas transmission additive supposed to do for it, and is there possibly an electrical relay/switch I could be checking?
How many miles since a fluid and filter change? May want to pull the codes just incase there is something stored. If you do not have a code reader click on "Tech Info" on the top line of this forum page and the on OBD1 for instructions to read codes from the check engine light. You might also want to make sure your brake lights are operating OK.
