Question Need Help w/Electrical Glitch

Got a new (to me) 2002 F250, it's kinda an unusual truck but perfect for me. It's a PSD w/manual trans, manual 4wd and manual hubs, but is a Lariat, kinda cool huh.

Anyway on to the problem/glitch;

After driving for a while when I stop and get out I first notice the radio doesn't shut off when I open the door (any door), and the power locks or remote won't work. Then after playing with it for a while things start to come back. The radio will shut off then the power locks and remote will work except for any horn functions. Before the horn would chirp when I hit the lock button on the remote twice, and the panic alarm won't work, sort off. When I hit the lock twice or the panic button the horn tries to chirp and I hear a click from under the dash on the drivers side.

In trying to figure this out I started seaching for that click. So I pulled each one of the relays in the fuse panel one by one to see if the click stopped with one of them out, it didn't. So then I sent my ears after the source of the click. My ears aren't that good but it seamed to be coming behind the gauges.

As of this moment everything is back to working fine, but I'm sure the next long trip I go on it will start happening again. It started yesterday after my first long trip, before yesterday I had only taken short trips, in the 2 weaks I've had the truck.

So any ideas from all you experts out there, this new stuff is new to me so I'm a little lost on this. Anyone had or seen the same problem?

Thanks

This is from an 05 manual, so there may be differences - but it sounds like the Accessory Delay relay might be sticking. That's what keeps the radio on until you open a door after the engine is off. It's on the main fuse panel under the dash and appears to be replaceable. Another possibility is the vehicle Security Module, which is up behind the dash. The third possibility is the Battery Saver relay which is up behind the instrument cluster.

I do not have any good advice on how to start troubleshooting this, other than piece by piece.

Again, this is based on an 05 wiring diagram so it may differ from 02.

Probably not much help, but the clicking sound is most likely the horn relay. I've learned it is integrated into the fuse panel and cannot be changed. But since it's clicking, it's probably working OK. I too would vote on the accessory delay relay as your culprit. You might also posting this on the electrical forum, there are some guys there who really know the electrical systems.
Good luck!

A bad driver's door switch might do the same thing - do the interior lights come on when you open the door?
