Napa, while still using the same suppiers (Martin Senour--Sherwin Williams)changes something... The paint is now called `Cross/FIRE` Somewhat different mixing ratios, but a heck of a lot cheaper for basecoat clearcoat. I bought 1 qt GM linnen white, 1 qt reducer, 1 qt clear 1 pt hardner and paid 50 dollars. a Qt of red for my truck would run 25 dollars, alot cheaper than what I paid last summer. The counter guy says their looking to tap into the DIY market.. Any Pro`s know what to think of this?

Hi, haven't heard of this, as the NAPA stores around here don't sell paint. If you get more info on this please let us know what is going on. It would be nice to buy paint at a resonable price for a change. John
One of the advantages of the new paint is that 1 reducer works for all there products from enamal to clearcoat.. i don't know about the primer.. still laerning (and have old stuff to burn up..)

Hi, I'll have to check with my local store and find out what is going on and where I can get the paint I'm getting ready to paint my 67 mustang and the paint is $55.00 a quart withoput hardner and thinner. so if I can get it cheaper through them thats where I'll go. thanks, John
Just priced out 2 qts of a gm metalflake blue, the quote was between 25-30 dollars. The red for my truck (several metal flake mixture, known to be a expensive color) was about 20-25 a quart

That sounds like a fantastic price!
I just bought PPG Ultra Pitthane black for $54.27/gal and catalyst for $24/qt thinner for 29/gal. The primer was Epoxy 2 part for 33.81/gal and epoxy thinner for 14/gal
The total was $292 for 2 gal of black paint and 2 gal of primer. Black is a cheap color and the selection where I bought it from didn't offer many choices because they were supposed to be a wholesaler, but PPG is supposed to be a great paint.
I remember seeing a sign at Napa saying 'every thing you need to paint your car for $99' but I was concerned about the quality. I wonder how it stands up over the years.
Stephen, I can't get automotive paints at my NAPA but so that somebody else might benefit from this info could you do a comparason onthis paint it is 94 ford mustang opal frost pearl paint code WJ the normal dupont base clear is $55.00 a quart just for the paint no hardner clear or thinner. Thanks John
OK, crossfire update.
NAPA is still carring the other paint, but offered the crossfire to shops that don't sale to the body shops much. They use the same paint books as the other stuff.
The crossfire brand is computer matched, rather than the staff of 10 lady's in Chicago playing "Match the paint game" this is one area they save money.
There is a slight reduction in the amount of sprayable paint you get; the original line was a 1:1 ratio, the crossfire is a 2:1 ratio. So there is a 25% reduction in sprayable material per quart bought, but you will still have 1/2 qt reducer left too.. You still save money tho...
As for your Opal Frost Pearl (a silver metalic, corect?) a qt. of the crossfire would be 24.69

Stephen, I live near the wrong NAPA stores I had to buy it through a friend who has a bodyshop and mixes his own colors. Gave him what it cost him to make it $44.00 a quart But this does have Dupont on the label so that would add some. but from 55.00 a quart to 25.00 is a lot of money that is around 100.00 to paint a car. thanks for checking it out. John
hey i just bought a gallon of 1998 viper yellow in the crossfire brand for $45.00!! for a whole gallon! amazing, finally cheap paint. from NAPA of all places. whood a thunk?
