I have a 1990 ford F-150 super cab that I am restoring. The rear frame cross members are rusted pretty bad and I would like to replace them. I visited my local ford dealer and they are not shown in their parts catalog. Does anyone know where I can get replacement crossmembers or is my only option is to have them fabricated. Also do I need to do one at a time ?
If I do all the rears at once would I mess up any frame alignment ?
I appreciate any and all information.
I'm in the process of restoring my frame and it was pretty rusty as well. I'd check to see just how much rust damage there is. If it doesn't have any actual holes and it looks like mainly surface rust, I'd consider using Por15 and a sandblaster to restore them.
If you really want to replace them, I'd look to see if they are rivited or bolted on, I had trouble finding anyone that would re-rivit anything for me, they wanted to weld it and I didn't want that. A rivited frame is more flexable than one that is welded and will last longer.
You might want to check the local wrecking yards but being that it's not that old, you might end up having to have them made by a local welding shop.
Either way you go, I'd consider some Por15 or other rust preventative paint afterwards to keep it from rusting again.
My cross memebers are rusted also, I have an 86 f150 4x4 reg cab long box that I am restoring, would the cross memebers be the same on an 86 f150 2 wheel drive super cab long box? Thanks
