Steering wheel removal

How do you remove the steering wheel from a '49 F2? I looked in the book and it said to use a puller. There are NO threaded holes for the puller.

If it is a stock steering wheel it should have two threaded holes in the wheelhub. I would also make the following recommendations as this process proved difficult: Make sure that you replace the steering wheel nut prior to pullng and that the puller pushes on the nut rather than the steering shaft as the force of the puller could mushroom the steering shaft and ruin it for life. I believe I replaced the nutand then used a piece of 3/16 stock on top of thenut to assure no damage was done - GO SLOW and watch what is happening as you tighten the puller. Also use lots of penitrating oil and let it soak for a few days first and tap now and then with a mallot to jar the oil into any rust between the shaft and the nut. When you are using the puller you may also benefit from strikes with a hammer periodically as you tighten the screw. It took me two weeks to loosen my wheel and there were no visable signs of rust and I had to chase the steering shaft threads when I was done. Hopefully yours is not that tough. If not the stock wheel . . . .hmmm, use the mother of invention - A bigger hammer - not really try a different type of puller. carl

In order to use a wheel puller you will have to drill and tap some threads. Your hub looks pretty clean tho so might get away with hitting the backside with a rubber or plastic mallet.
