Hi again everyone, I have another question here. My truck is a 2000 F350 with a 7.3 diesel with 214,000 miles. I've only had the truck for a few weeks and driven it very little. Probably less than 50 miles. Today I took it out to run some erands and while sitting in a parking lot with it idling it shut off. I mean shut off quick (instant). It did crank right back up. A few miles later while at a red light idling it shut off again very abruptly and again it cranked right back up. At this point I'm getting somewhat nervous wondering if it was going to leave me stranded. I pull into another parking lot and shut it off to go inside a store. Came back out to leave and it cranked right up. Took off across the parking lot and it died again. My question is, does anyone have any clues as to what might be causing the engine to die with no warning. The engine runs great and sounds great. This just started today. It was raining today, could that have any bearing on this?
Thanks in advance,
Gary
Like Adam said maybe CPS. Since you have only had it a few weeks you may want to check/change the oil, fuel filter drain the water bowl. I am sure you will get more info soon. Congrats on the truck.
Adam it dies instantly. No sputtering or anything. Just as quick as if you turned the key off. The oil was just change but not the fuel filter. Is there some kind of sensor in the fuel filter that would cause this? Thanks for the quick replies guys.
Ok guys, maybe we are getting somewhere. When I bought the truck, the guy said he had replaced the CPS and even had an extra one in the glove box. He called it a crankshaft sensor but I assume he mean camshaft sensor. Is it located underneath the engine, somewhat toward the front? This is the location he refered to when telling me about this.

Thanks again guys,

yeah its right beside the crankshaft pully, it inserts into the block
It sounds just like when my CPS croaked...shut off at lights and start right back up, wait till it starts missing on the highway at 65 mph (ugh!!). If you are gonna do it yourself (it's really simple) Get one from an International Dealer versus Autozone or one of those places if possible.
Well, I think you've nailed it. Like I said, I have one in the glovebox. Its actually kinda funny because on the way home my wife ask me if it could be that sensor the guy we bought the truck from was telling us about. Of course I said, no hon!!! Thanks again,
