im shopping for a 6.0 ( unless i find a nice enough 7.3) and was looking for opinions. is it safer to find a 6.0 that hasnt had heads replaced yet or one that had just been through shop under warranty and had both heads replaced. i wonder if the one with new heads would be alright for a while or would it be constant problems, and i didnt see new head bolts on oasis, is that cosidered part of the head? or did they use old ones.
If it were me, I'd prefer one that just had heads done under warranty. 1- you have fresh head gaskets ( and maybe 2 new heads?) 2) you'd still have warranty just in case
The head bolts are TTY and can only be used once
Unless they used ARP studs(or equilivant) after the head job(boy that doesn't sound right) then it's a crap shoot on rather or not you'll have problems. They could have done install wrong or didn't check flatness on the heads themselves. A plethorea of things could go wrong, now there isn't a surething with the ARPs(or equilivant either), but if the install wasn't done right you could re-use the studs.

Gaskets aren't the weak link. While having new gaskets is nice, it's the bolts v. studs that mean more(atleast to me). I think if the heads are warped then Ford protocal is to just replace the heads, they don't do any machining even though you could get away with that to a degree without issues.

That depends, but atleast it won't depend on the head job(nope doesn't sound any better the second go round either).
You are right, Tex. I was assuming the work was done properly by a qualified Ford tech. And I assumed it would still be under warranty, below 100k or the extended 200k. ARP's are preferred, but not always used if done under warranty. Sorry if I wasn't clear, nursing a bit of a hangover!
