Ok guys have any off you did this. I was going to change mine soon but was just curious the proper way to do it.If I remove the differential cover is there anything I should look for when changing the oil. Thanks everyone for any help
I used Guzzle's writeup and it went fine. Definitely let the gasket material skin up for 1/2 hour before you put the cover back on and wait as long as you can to fill the pumpkin so that the gasket has time to set.
I would also re-check the torque on the bolts a little ways down the road. I changed to the '08 rear cover and developed some weepage about a month later. I re-torqued the bolts and the weepage stopped. Only a couple of drops hit the ground but the small stain on the diff cover got noticeably larger over a few day span until I crawled under there with my torque wrench and put an end to the fluid's escape.
BTW I used Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil and didn't have to add any friction modifier for my LS.
