Engine shudder
Hey everyone,
I got back home from working out of town on Friday and got in my wifes 99 expedition and as I was driving down the road I noticed that just crusing light on the throttle it shudders really bad. You get on the gas and it will accelerate smooth but when you let off and cruise it shudders again. Idle is smooth but the exhaust doesn't smell normal either. I changed the fuel filter and the oil. The SES light was on but after the oil and fuel filter change the SES light went out and hasn't come back on. It still runs crappy. Has any one else had a similar problem? Any help would be great. I am getting a code reader tomorrow, hopefully that will tell me what is wrong and hopefully it is an easy fix. Thanks

If your SES light is off, hopefully your code reader can read 'pending' codes. (A pending code is a code that is not currently present but has failed with in the last x key cycles. X is either 20 or 40 key cycles depending on the year of the PCM.)

Hey all, I thought I would post an update on this one. I pulled the codes and it gave me the code for #3 misfire. I changed the spark plugs and it seems to run a little better. but still has a little shudder to it. when i'm driving it on the freeway up around 75 to 80 the ses light will blink and when I slow down to get off an exit the ses will go on solid again. when my wife gets home from the store I am going to pull the codes again. Ill post them when I get them.

did u change the COP?
if the #3 cop is bad you can change the plugs all day long and it wont matter
when mine shows up as a cyl misfire i just change the COP and the plug and be done w/ it
its usually the COp or the boot gone bad NOT the plug

Sorry it took a bit to reply. the code was cylinder 3 misfire again so i replaced the COP and fixed the problem. She runs like a champ again and the wife is happy. Thanks everyone.
