Fan Clutch?

Yesterday I was on my way home from work and I heard something rubbing under the hood. I stopped and observed the fan hitting the fan shroud intermittantly. I turned my truck off and could see a little smoke coming from the center of the fan. There was no coolant on the ground nor could I smell any. Wondering if it the fan clutch or the water pump and how easy it is to fix them. Any suggestions?

if i remember right the fan clutch is part of the fan i think so it should just be remove the fan and put the new one on. the hardest part is braking it loose from the pulley...

Thanks Indy. From what I described does it sound like a fan clutch problem to you?

http://www.geocities.com/dirtsplat/WaterPump.zip Also has fan removal.

Can you grab the fan and give it some jiggles to check if the pump bearing is shot or something in the fan? Fan shroud has all its bolts holding it on tightly?
