I had my truck loaded up today about 4k lbs in the bed, pulled fine and everything was normal until I had to drive up the hill to my house, it's 1 mile of very steep grade. I stuck the tranny in 2nd, all the gauges looked normal and it pulled the hill fine but I noticed it was blowing blue smoke out the tailpipe going up the hill. I let it idle at the top of the hill and the smoke went away and I revved it in neutral and no smoke. My gasser does the same thing but that has 200k on it and the rings are shot, this truck has 70k. I can't believe the rings are shot at 70k miles, it doesn't seem right. Is there a PCV valve or something to check? I'm also running 5w40 synthetic.
Check your turbo as said. Pull the intake hose off, grab the nut on the wheel, and see if you get any side to side play. A little play is ok, but if you get any in and out play, you may need a rebuild. Look in the tail pipe and see if any oil is in it. Also look at all the joints on the exhaust to see if any oil is seeping from there also.
Thanks I think you guys nailed it. I made a 2nd trip same load same route but I didn't go past 1/2 throttle 35 mph and no smoke. The first trip I wanted to see if she could gain speed up the hill with a load so I had it floored 50mph so full boost. Whew! Turbo seals are easier than piston rings.
