I have a previous post about a VIN i have on the truck that i own. I have the original papers that are from mexico (title).
2 questions.
Can i just apply for a car title? ( they will want to run the VIN on the car and it will take alittle longer i presume so everything checks out.)
issue is that I need to try and find the VIN on this truck. i know of 3 places. The Vin i got of the door seems incorrect AC1JAZXXXXX
1. Inside the hood by the firewall
2. windshield
3. driver side door
I have even heard of it being in the glovebox.....
the other is do you think the DMV would honor a Mexican title for the car?
I found no records that reflected the VIN you had posted. My thought is if you have a title and proof of purchase it should be no problem. But, you know the DOT! In Wisconsin, we have a website that will reply to title questions which saves time compared to waiting in line. I'm sure there must be something similar in IL.
Good Luck!
The one that matters for registration is on the dash behind the winshield.
As long as it matches your title and has been properly signed by the PO there shouldn't be a problem transfering it. At least there usually isn't with a US title. Mexico may be another story.
Here in PA it is not enough to simply sign the the title on the back. The PO has to go to the notary with you to get it transferred.
Just think in negative terms, and you will know what you need to do. In other words, you have to convince the people behind the counter that you, or someone else hasn't stolen this truck and sold it to you. Sorry to say, it happens everyday.
