shimming the FPR
My fuel pressure is borderline at 50 psi and I was going to go shim it up a bit but wanted to know the difference in the 2 mods first.
If you need a good pic send me your e-mail address. I have a good pic but can't post it here because it is a word document.
It's not as straight forward as everyone seems to think but thankfully I'm a machinist and gunsmith. The inside bore of the plunger was nowhere near big enough, mostly do to rough machine marks inside, to take a 3/16 ball bearing.
I took it over to my lathe and used a 3/16 reamer to fix it. The ball goes in easy now.
ALSO, My truck starts SO MUCH BETTER!
Before there was always a 3 or 4 second crank time, now it's near instant. The idle feels nearly the same as my 97 which has always run perfect, it's smoother, Much quicker windup and I'm about to go take off my slide in camper and go for a test drive to see how much more power I have.
Before fuel pressure was about 50 psi at idle which I have read is borderline for them. And about 65-70 at full throttle.
Now it is 65-70 idle and around 85 or so at 2500. The engine is cold so I didn't run it up on the governor just yet. By all the specs I have read this pressure range seems much better so it should be good to go now.
