Early Lightnings
Hi all, have been hanging around and putting my 2 bits worth in occaisionally. Have a ? for those in the know. With the early lightnings (meaning pre supercharged) what were some of the components that increased the performance of these trucks?
I presently have a '91 f150 supercab with the 5.8 in it and the engine is starting to get a bit tired. Would like to find a real lightning but this truck is paid for and owes me nothing. If someone would tell me what the differences were or tell me where i can find this info, i would appreciate it and maybe start collecting the parts needed to build the engine to lightning specs.
Great board and source of info. Thanks all

Early Lightnings
Well here's some differences;
GT-40 cast iron heads
GT-40 upper and lower intake
Shorty headers
65 mm single blade throttle body
high torque camshaft (non roller)
Different pistons??
Specially calibrated computer
Specially calibrated E4OD auto trans.
Aluminum driveshaft
4:10 traction lock in a Lightning specific differential housing.
Not to mention the suspension, interior and body enhancements.
