will a (77)2wd 460 headers fit on a 4x4 f-250 truck (78) the headers i need to know.. Or are they 4x4 specific ones?
this truck im parting out has a nice exhaust done with flomasters.. and would like to swap to my 78 4x4
What kind of headers are you using? Usually long headers for a 2wd application do not provide the proper clearance for the front driveshaft, and the pass side exhaust typically runs right into the transfer case when used with a married case.
Lots of measurments have to be made, but I believe that you will run into clearance problems with the driveshaft.
I also have a question about headers, I have a 460 in my F-250 4x2 and would like to know what would be the best headers for it(shortys or longtube) and where could I find some, I have checked in Summit and other catalogs, but they don't carry any for these trucks, thanks.
i read all day about people putting the 460 in there f250 4x4's all the time. can someone tell me if i need to put the headers in first or if i can do it with the motor in the truck. i know that anyone who has done this thinks its a dumb question but i don't want to put motor in and have to take it back out. thanks
It depends if its longtube or shortys, shortys are about the same size as a stock exhaust manifold so they normally go right in, but longtubes are a different story, usually the motor has to be out, but I have heard off some people getting them in there with motor in place, it just depends on how much space you have. A small block has more space under the hood than a big block as well as diferent year models have different designed inner fenders, also the factory air box and steering linkage play a part in wheither or not they go in with or without the engine. With longtube headers its always easier to put them in first no matter how much space you have, just to be on the safe side.
