Slip joint greasin...

I was going to regrease my slip yoke tonight and after looking at the thread for this, i realized than my driveshaft is different. It shows taking the driveshaft loose at the rear diff...mine can not be removed there. about three feet up i have a u joint that can be removed and about a foot back from that is my boot to disassemble. does anyone else have this and is it okay to undo the joint there.....

Why not drill and tap the slip joint and install a grease fitting? Dan.

It would not hurt to try..it felt like mine was doing the same thing and i just drove it and it fixed it...Very nice to drive now.

If i felt alittle better about my tapping skills i would but now that i know how to do it....five minute job...if you are thinking about doing this do it...well worth it..

Although my truck is a 97 it seems like most of the things are alot alike.
My next question was gonna be. the only work that i have ever done on a car or truck is on this truck and it was a tune up. I just broke the lines on my fuel filter now i have to find a way to fix that. How hard is this gonna be for a beginner like me.

Thanks

I would say greasing the slip yoke is much easier than replacing the fuel filter. Just because there are no "special" tools required or any peculiar fittings. Just removing some bolts and pulling it apart.

Do pay attention to the alignment of things and have a cable tie handy to use in place of the factory clamp. Also make sure you don't pull the caps off the u-joint and spray needle bearings all over the place!

Check out my write-up above if you haven't already. It shows quite a few pics of the process on a SD... it should be similar to yours. Here's another guy's writeup for a different driveshaft configuration on a SD that might be helpful for your application.
