Limited progress

worked on the truck yesterday; -20 C so limited progress. I fastened the box to rails, alignment is suspect, parallel to frame, same distance of front of box to cab, looks like frame is 1/2" out front to back, or else my rear cross member got welded in crooked. anyway, Im going to re-align my rear axle today, I was out about 3/8" to passenger side, leaving uneven spacing of rear tires to box sides. Also, passenger side was slightly higher than driver side, so a couple steps back before moving ahead again.

lol did a lot more than I did in those temps. Couple years ago I had to run heaters all day in my shop just so it could get warm enough for things to set. Nothing like working with 4 coats on

Looking forward to pictures when you're all done!

Another up date

Got the rear axle back in truck Friday; a lot of work by own self. Today is marking fender bolt locations. I'm excited to see the fenders go on, be a long time.

Fender bolts

filed holes square and welded in fender bolts today; also started mounting SS trim to grill. It ain't perfect but looks better than it did 4.5 years ago.
Looking forward to spring, to air out the beast.

Update

Managed to work a little on truck yesterday; finally completed the filler neck to my gas tank. I'm using Mustang tank, had to fab up the filler neck at 35 degrees angle, to make it level with the bed. It will sit so that the gas cap is flush to top of bed. I'd lke to have it under the bed but there was limited room. Still need to fab up return gas line to tank, probably into the sender opening. I might take pics today.

Tom,

Sounds like good progress.

I cleared a path in my garage and drove my truck out into the light on Sunday. It was a nice day so I drove it to run my errands. While at the hardware store a guy in a 56 Packard started talking with me, the next thing I know I'm at his house looking at his stuff. He has a 1925 GMC (Chevy powered but riding on a 48 F1 axle), also had a 1917 Republic (all stock), a 56 T-bird, a 58 Packard and another 56 packard.

Its amazing how many friends you make when you drive an old truck.
