Steering Box play

Anyone know how to get the play out of the steering box? I have adjusted the nut/Allen on top and made it better. Still have about 1 inch of slop in the steering wheel. The output from the box to the linkage is not moving so I think it is the box. Napa has a rebuilt one for about 200. Also, how the heck do you get the input and output apart? Thanks for any inputs.........

I have adjusted mine a few times as well and there is still too much slop in it so I will probably be replacing the box in the Fall. It almost feels like it "darts" right now.

I can't really answer any of your questions but I will be interested how your replacement goes. The steering is really the only complaint I have with my truck.

Read the manuel before adjusting your box. There is a torgue value you set them to. Not the box but on the nut that hold the steering wheel on while you tighten the box. It just tells you how much drag there is on the steering wheel when you turn it. Tighten it up to much and you can kill the box. Not much fun having a box fail while driving
