Meh, Transmission issue

Hey Guys,
WAAY long time, no post.

Got one to run by you guys.

Truck is a 98 4.6/4x4.

Took the truck out on a venture last night and the O/D light started flashing on me. Seemed like when I was up around 70 the rpms sat around 3k and didn't want to come down unless I really let off. This only appeared to happen when I got on the throttle to pass someone.
If I kept the rpm's low around 1600-1800 seemed like the truck didn't have a problem and the O/D light wouldn't come on after resetting it. (shutting ign. off)
Around town driving seems fine except 1st gear seems sluggish. After getting off the highway the transmission seemed fine til it got down to 1st gear and it slammed it in gear almost putting me into the intersection.

With all that said. Tranny fluid is full. Don't know the age of the fluid. It was still red and it smelled fine to me. Doesn't appear like the tranny is overheating...just wondering what the variables could be. My 99 Stroke had TC issues and didn't know if the 150 of this vintage had the same problems. Just looking for some input.

Also want to add. Coasting results in a heavy vibration similar to my Ujoints being shot. Could be Ujoints....maybe not...Just thought I would add.
Thanks!

It almost sounds like a torque converter issue at the root of it.
