5.8 knock/tap after sitting, lifter?
My truck has been sitting for about 5 months due to work, winterized it as best I could with stabil, E0 gas topped off both tanks, fresh oil change of Pennzoil high milage 5W-30 and a pure one filter.
The first issue was a starter that had gone bad sometime during the storage, so a reman fomoco starter later and it spun to life, but with some decent knocking/tapping for about 30-60 seconds and then it smoothed out. The engine had been ran on the new oil before storage, and it was about 55F out when started
Should I be concerned?
Did a lifter lose pressure and it just took that long to fill up with oil and stop the tapping/knocking?
I wanted to spin the engine over with no fuel until oil pressure built, but it didn't quite happen. Pulling the fuel pump fuse should work, but do these trucks cancel fuel if you floor the gas on start?
Thanks!

I always floor the throttle and crank the engine for 10-15 seconds if the engine has not been run for several weeks or months. I park our 2006 Mustang in the garage when the snow starts. It stays there until the roads are clear of salt.
I would expect a little rattling if you just crank it up like you did. But if there is more than that I would be a little concerned.

Bearings do not fail randomly. It may be a sign of sludge in the bottom of the pan or weak oil pump. Stick a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it. Verify the oil pressure at start up and operating temperature.

I not familiar with the 5.8, but a 5.0 will rattle pretty good on startup after sitting for a few weeks or months. All the oil drains off, lifters bleed down, oil pump needs to prime. Best to try and let them turn over for a bit before actually starting them. Same thing happens on first start after an oil change, just not as severe.

Thanks for the replies, I'm putting a new Luk clutch in this and freshening up the lower gaskets/replacing a rusty oil pan, so I might as well drop a new oil pump in while its off.
I'll still do the mechanical guage with a T off the dummy sensor first, but at my milage its likely a good idea.
