why is it the 4x4 rear shock mounts rust away? But the 2wd ones dont?
I need a Pass side rear shock mount for the frame. Anyone know where i can get one? I have a 77 2wd frame, and notice the mounts are totaly differnt.
Could the 2wd ones be used? Or does it mount the shock at a different angle on 2wd?
thanks
i bought two from Ford a few yours ago for my 78.I don't know if theres a differents between 2 wd and 4 wds. Numbersdummy could possibly you with that info. and part no.
oh theres a difference, the 4wd look like a bolt sticking out of the frame that you slide the shock on, the 2wd looks like a plate that the shock stick thru and bolts down..
i guess im junkyard bound
Not to dispute what 69crewcab has said, particularly since a lot of these trucks (and mine in particular) have gotten pretty cobbled up over the years...but...
On my 4wd, the shock mounts are the type that the shock top slips up through and is held on by a nut on top. ON one of the 2wd parts trucks I bought a while back, the shock mounts were the type with the bolt sticking out that the shock slides over. On another 2wd parts truck, the PO had fabbed up his own with scrap metal. They were the type with the bolt sticking out as well. I can't see why the two couldn't be interchangable. You may have to drill another hole but the angle on a shock shouldn't be too critical as long as you make sure it won't bind up on itself.
Shock mounts and spring hangers are two things I always look for on junkyard beauties. Around here, they are worth collecting and hard to find in usable condition. Definitely unbolt the ones you have and keep em. Clean em up and ebay them if you like. I saw a set go on there for $60 a few years back.
Bronco graveyard has the 4wd rear replacements not to bad of a price either i have to get a couple myself for my truck my passenger side is rotted also
Has anyone ever used a bronco mount on there F150/250 There is a huge difference in price and i didn't know if it was the same bolt pattern year of truck i have is a 78 and im curious about using a 78 bronco shock mount I'm not going to be towing anything so that was the only thing i was worried about.
