Went back north in the Arizona mountains for a ski trip/truck check, I was experiencing what I think was turbo farting so I wanted more objective info. Everything was ok on flat land, as soon as I started to climb, I was basically chugging up the passes, blowing out a puff of black smoke with each "chug." I went to a Ford dealer in a small town, the tech tested the truck and found a P0603 code, and "low inj cir." He said he reprogrammed the FICM module and thought that would solve things. I got through the biggest passes coming home with no problems, but then a smallish climb produced about 8 big "chugs" with a big puff of black smoke each chug, 65mph and 2200 rpms (I don't have gauges). The rest of the ride was uneventful.
Any ideas? I cleaned up the EGR valve 5000 miles ago (it was in good shape), and the fuel filters aren't due for another 5000 miles. I am going back to the local dealer in the morning to see if any codes show up. No CEL either...
i would say your egr valve is sticking on you. when mine stuck it produced the same problem. would buck and blow black smoke when i would put a load on it. i cleaned my valve and it looked new, but it was sticking open.i also had an inj #1 low circuit code but know cel.......
Went to Ford and they are going to take the turbo apart under warranty and check it out. The tech felt the main problem was in the turbo, but he is also going to replace the EGR valve. I don't think I had these chugging problems until the PCM was reprogrammed, but what do I know.
