new manual locks

I was having problems with my auto locking hubs on my 94 f-150. I am in the process of converting to Warn manual locks. The problem I am having, is the installation instructions that came with the locks say after a put in the large outer lock ring just before the cap, i should have some float and i don't. Everything is solid and seems to make sense. Am, i wrong?

Welcome to FTE wilbilly216,

If you use some type of pry bar/large screwdiver.
You will be able to move the axle shaft toward the differential. (pry outer ujoint- inward)
The movement is about 1/8 of an inch.
Just enough to install the snap ring.
This occurs most of the time, and it is a "snap" to do!
