Well a buddy of mine had his South Bend Clutch go bad on his 95. He wasn't to happy with it anyways. So this past week we made the trip down to Haisley Machine. Haisley is known mostly for there work on the Cummins engine, but they make clutches for Fords. There shop is pretty nice and the guys there are very nice, my buddy ended up buying a twin disc street puller clutch from them, and he is hoping to get it Monday so it can go in. They build the clutches per order. Just wanted to pass along the info.
I've always liked the Centerforce dual friction clutches and the way they held havent decided about getting one for this truck yet but they run a composite multi surface contact and counter weights on the pressure plate for added holding power. I have one in my last moster gasser and managed to smoke once pulling a mustang sideways out of a farmers drainage ditch with a set 44" tires on the truck and two years later had to replace the flywheel and when I took it out it had so much holding power it hadnt even broke in yet.
Hopefully he didn't get a 13 inch dual disk flywheel. If he did, he better get ready to do some serious clearancing in the bell housing. I would tell him to be ready with a backup plan, or clutch. I only say this because I've been working with Dan at Valair on their 5 speed dual disks. We finally got everything how it should be, but that's all I'll say until we are done getting the final revision in the truck. Not doubting Haisley, but just passing on what I've learned. To fit the 13", you have to shave every web and bump out of the bellhousing, and even then, you'll be lucky if it doesn't hit. Then there is the fork issue. But like I said, I'm not letting the solution out of the bag until I have it in the truck for the final time. And the only reason it's not in there now is because I haven't had the chance to stop long enough to put it in. Things have been pretty busy in my camp. But please let me know how your friends install goes. And if he has questions, pm me and we'll talk off line.
