Head mis-match

Well, decided it's time to do something about valves being sucked up into the heads on my '66 F100 352. Compression varies from 70-130 and only goes up a few pounds wet.

Wondering first if I have a problem with mis-matched heads. Left side is C6AE-6080-R (with a big 'R' also cast at back of head). Right side is D2TEAA with 203 3D cast at back of head.

According to the chart in Steve Christ book the D2TE is from 72-76 360/390/428 and has different combustion chamber volume than the C6AE that would appear to be original for the 352.

If I need to find a match to one of these, is either better than the other? I want to get it right before I spend $400-500 on new valves and hardened seats.

Any advice appreciated.

Jack

the c6ae-r has bigger chambers, and has the early low riser intake port. A bad mismatch in my opinion. Either set would work, the d2te are more common though.

The D2TE and C8AE-H heads are the same except for the hardened exhaust seats.

Yes, that C6 head is a bad mismatch to the D2 head. Sounds like one head was replaced a long time ago.

If it were me, and you're going for a valve job anyway, get another D2 head (or pair of D2s or C8s) from the junkyard and have them completely redone.

Question: Does the intake change from low-rise to high-rise head ports? If so, you might need a newer cast-iron 4bbl intake (or aftermarket) to match the D2/C8 heads, or find another C6AE-R head like you already have to keep the matched set matching the intake.
