86 Bronco firewall cracking
My 86 Bronco 4.9L with manual transmission recently had a problem with the clutch not fully disengaging at times. It turns out that the firewall was flexing, I could see the reinforcing ring around the steering column on the firewall move when the clutch was depressed. I had been hearing cracking noises when I used the clutch before the movement started. We welded the ring to the firewall, and everything seems to work now. Has anyone seen this before? I understand there is a factory reinforcement kit or two for this problem.
