Number 1 injector has a timing pulse adapter between the line and injector.
So you need to use 2 wrenches to tighten that line.
Make sure you hold the adapter when you try to turn the line nut so you don't wind up crimping the injection line.
If you have to tighten the adapter, the line nut must be loose first.
Leaks past the IP are usually not responsible for hard starts, but are responsible for low MPG's.

Dave ,
Good to hear from you and thank you for the input.
Well today I had some success, Good point about No 1 injector.
My leak was coming from the one next to it. I took that line out totally, I found the compression end on the line that fit in the IPwas pitted. So I filled and buffed and tried sevreal times finally the 3 rd try I had success. it sealed off.
as far as contributing to hard to start problem , I was suspecting that loosing fuel pressure over night from leak down. Which mean that you would have to crank multiple times to get fuel pressure up That is my 2 cents.
still my hard to srta are due to faulty controller operation. due to having one missing last one driver side. in fact the people that had the truck or worked on the truck tried to put a wire between the last 2 GP connection.
I am going to trick it by putting another GP have it lay on the side of the head , and see if the controller will heat the GP longer on cold days.
dave your input Please

Happy 7.3 L
Hey guy s,
I am happy to to report thart all the fixing I did on the 89 F 350 7.3 L truck has benn worth it and fairly cheap.
1- repair the leak at the oil filter ( change to new Filter)
2- repair leak at the fuel pump lines , one line was leaking down pressure and sucking air
3- IP pump advance timing plunger was stuck , was freed and working properly
4- clean all terminal on the GP and controller wires.
The result is the truck start easily if not on the first crank , for sure the second. no smoking , or missing. even start fine after leaving setting for few days.
all the reapir were minor just a matter of diagnostic and finding them one after the other
