There's always the unexpected.

If none of the mirrors match, they could be earlier or later Ford mirrors not used 1973/79.

Or could be aftermarket, obtained from Pep Boys, J.C. Whitney, Western Auto, NAPA and anyone else who sold mirrors.

Thanks for your assistance here and on the side mouldings discussed elsewhere.

I have two NOS Ford mirror bracket arms on Ebay right now - look for Ebay seller hertzshelby. I also have several other NOS ones of varying length, all painted white (or maybe powder coated as the covering appears very thick) that I do not have part numbers for (I got them from buying out the old parts from John Carpenter Ford in Moulton, AL). I can take pics and measure and post if you're interested.

Rear view mirror Type 5

I know this is an old thread, but was looking around and wanted to know what trucks came with the type 5 mirror in that chart.
Thanks

And I'd like to know how the mirrors in no 7 mount. Someone gave me a pair of 'em since my original pass side got busted, but the no 7s don't seem to be right where the old mirrors were. The old mirror mounts are just below the wing window for the top, and directly below that for the bottom. When I stuck this one on those holes, which it matches up just fine to, I don't really get a good view out of the mirror.

So, anyway, thanks for digging up an old post.

Thanks
Standard equipment for ALL 1973/79 F100/350's except Camper/Trailer Specials, but most were never installed on these trucks.

In 1967, the Fed's mandated that all light trucks had to have a standard equipment L/H outside mirror. So what Ford did was use the el cheapo passenger car mirror (1967/72: C7AZ17696A).

In 1973, Ford changed this mirror, it's now truck only as the mirror head is larger than was used previously.

But, not one truck came from the factory with any outside mirrors installed, all were installed by the dealers.

The Type 5 (or any other type of mirror) was in a box, placed in the cab at final assembly.

Since most ppl did not want the Type 5, most were never installed...dealers had dozens of these mirrors layin' around, and since no one wanted them...eventually threw them away.

The reason this mirror was not factory installed was...if the purchaser of the truck didn't want it...wanted something else instead, the holes in the door would have to filled in and the door repainted.

I have the type 5 on my 73, pretty useless for a truck. Id like to try a set of the type 4, looks bigger but the same mount.

Thanks for the diagram Jermafenser,

Aus F100's seem to most commonly come with Type 9 as shown. These are now worth a lot locally secondhand as they can only be replaced with cheap rubbish aftermarket product.

Are these easy to get a hold of in the US as originals?

To the original poster. Would you be interested in changing to a type 9 mirror or are you not wanting to mess with different holes. They seem to be the most common from what I have seen. In another thread probably 8 months ago numberdummy gave me the part number for a type 9 mirror for my 77 F-150. I did a search on ebay (check the "include descriptions" box) and I found a guy with like 50 of them! He didn't even kow what they fit, just had the part number. So if you are seaching for "Ford Truck Mirrors" or something similar you will never find them. I dont have the part number on me but I'm sure numberdummy could provide it again or I can get it off the box at home. I told my uncle about it and he got a set too. So I got 2 for me and 2 for him. They were $45 each shipped which is CHEAP. I think original MSRP is around double that and most places that sell them ask $75 each. They are in the Ford boxes, come with all hardware, bolts, gaskets, nutserts etc. And come with the Ford drawings on how and where to install them. They are AWESOME, and will look great against my new paint job.

As I recall, the part number was D6TZ17696A and at that time, this mirror was still available from Ford. Now...it's obsolete.

The last MSRP was $58.33 / Dealer net cost was $35.00.
--------------------------------------------------------
D4TZ17696A has been obsolete for quite a while. Its last MSRP was $82.19 / Dealer net cost was $57.53.

When parts are obsolete, they cannot be returned to Ford any longer for credit...which means the dealers are STUCK with them.

Some FoMoCo dealers will sell obsolete parts at or below their cost, some will sell at or below MSRP.

Two FoMoCo dealers that I'm aware of are high binders, want mega-bucks for obsolete parts, their usual asking price is double the original MSRP.

I only list these two dealers...if no one else has the parts. Both are located in KS.

Obsolete parts vendors make their living selling obsolete parts, so don't expect any "low buck" deals from them.

You betcha...as long as Time-Warners wonderful high speed internet service doesn't go down...again.

I typed a post with bed mouldings for 140" wheelbase F350's, hit submit...the service went down. The post went poof.

Had to type the whole fracatta thing over again.
