I broke the shift linkage on my truck under my truck where the rod connects to the tranny (that 3/8 metal rod),well it has one of those plastic rubber type grommets that fit into the linkage on the tranny ,,the grommet fell out so i got another one(i thiink it might be a bigger one) and well i can not get it snapped into the hole is there a tool a trick or heat what can i do...i tried for an hour to get that thing in but no luck any ideas???? thanks i drilled the hole a little bigger also

Those are a bugger. In the past I have used constant pressure to get them in. Try to
get a vise grip on to get it started and then a pry or quick rap. Make sure to block out the
linkage plate so you don't bend it.
