I would go for a autobody shop to paint it, unless you just want some experience in painting. If you take off all moldings and so on, and sand it down with 500 grit on an orbital sander, or 600 grit wet by hand it will be alot cheaper. When your sanding if you want the paint to lay flat, make sure there is no orange peel once your done sanding. That extra bit on sanding is worth the results. The most expensive piece of the job if you prep it is the paint then. On my truck I used Endura. Its a 2 part polyurathane, and is a really tough paint to scratch. Its also tough to apply. With a gallon of paint , 2 quarts of part B, and hardner i think it was around $450 Canadian. Good luck on your project.
Alright, orange peel is when the base coat or color coat of the paint has an orange peel look to it. Basically it isnt nice and glossy. Good prep jobs, and a good painter solves orange peel.

Knowledge is aquired from doing, but if you don't have the equipment and the place to do the work, it might be better to have a shop do it.
Shop it around to a few different places to get qoutes, and ask to see some of the vehicles they have done, to get an idea of the quality of thier work.
I am unfamiliar with IL , so I can't give you any info on reputable shops in your area.
It will all come down to the price your willing to pay and the quality your willing to accept.
