I have a 2000 7.3 desiel.f-250. One night I was hooking up my trailer. And forgot to turn off my lights. I automaticlly knew that i blew a fuse. The next morning i went to the auto part store. pick up a new fuse and did the following. I looked up on the enternet how to change the fuse and it said to disconnect the battery before doing so. But it was not plural, so of course i only unhooked one battery and not both. after changing the right fuse, and hook up the battery. the darn thing would turn over it just keeps turning and turning. I have since checked all the fuses replaced the bad ones. still turning no start. Please if anyone can help i would appreciate it
Which fuse did you blow? I've never disconnected a battery to change a fuse. When you turn the key on, does your wait to start light come on and go off like normal? Have you double checked the connections on both batteries to make sure they're clean and tight? How about the other end of the cables where they ground or hook to the alternator or solenoid? How long have you been trying to start it, and have you been charging the batteries? Weak batteries will spin the motor, but won't provide enough voltage to make the IDM fire the injectors.
Yes the when i turn key it lights like normal. i have not charged both batteries, only the main one. The fuse that i changed was under the hood and those are the ones that operate the trailer tow lamps. Somebody told me that maybey i need to reset the fuel pump. I have at this point checked all the fuses and relays.(other than the two relays adjacent to the fuse box) (under the hood). I will try charging the batteries. if you know anything else it would help
It's always best to check the fuses with a test light to be on the safe side. Both the ones under the hood, and the ones under the steering wheel.
Other things to check that will give us a hint. Is the engine oil full? Does the oil pressure gauge move up while cranking? Does the tach bounce while cranking? Any smoke out the tail pipe while cranking? If so, what color? What's the outside temp where your at? Do you hear the fuel pump humming when you first turn the key on?
no problem with the oil levels. and yes i do hear the fuel pump humming. Right now it is 61 degrees. also i am taking your earlier advice and making sure both batteries are fully charged. Thanks
